Fear Setting Framework

2 ratings

Fear Setting Framework is brought to my notice by Sahil Bloom in his latest thread.

This concept of "fear-setting" first came into limelight in 2017 by Tim Ferriss via a Ted Talk.

Why Fear-Setting is required?

The foundation of fear-setting is captured in a famous stoic quote:

We suffer more often in imagination that in reality.” — Seneca

The human tendency is to (a) feel fear and (b) run away from it. Fear-setting forces you to do the opposite—it provides a structured way to get closer to your fears in order to grow through them.

How It Works:

When faced with a big, intimidating decision, grab a notebook and pen and sit down in a quiet place with no technology or distractions. Here's a generalized model of how it works:

Step 1: Deconstruct the Fear

Step 2: Deconstruct the Upside

Step 3: Deconstruct the Inaction

Let's Get Started:

3 things you required to get started:

  • 3 sheets (attached)
  • Pen to write with
  • 30-60 minutes of tech-free time
